The Texas Lone Star Reading list is a recommended reading list developed by public and school librarians from the Young Adult Round Table. The purpose of the list is to encourage students in grades 6, 7 or 8 to explore a variety of current books. The Lone Star List is intended for recreational reading, not to support a specific curriculum. Each book on the list has been favorably reviewed for grades 6, 7, or 8 in a professional review source.
The West Ridge Library sponsors the Lone Star Reading Program and invites the sixth grade to participate. Prizes will be awarded periodically as students complete the readings and submit responses. The program usually ends in late April and is totally optional. Seventh and eighth grade students are encouraged to read from this list and often participate through their Language Arts classes.
